Entrepreneurial Journalism? What's that?

This post starts a semester long journey into discovering the ins and outs of Entrepreneurial Journalism and its effects on the media and information industries. The real question is, what is the definition of Entrepreneurial Journalism? We dove into this during our first class period in which we created our own definition, and this is the one I came away with:


a form of media where journalism is used to create business driven content for the consumer.


After gaining our understanding of Entrepreneurial Journalism and what this class is going to consist of, it was important to look into some examples of Entrepreneurial Journalism. I discovered just how specific some of these businesses are in order to relate to a certain niche audience. For example, my group looked at "theSkimm" a news website and app designed for millennial females too busy to read every news article of the day. So, "theSkimm" shortens news stories down to the most important details and gives the consumer access right at the tips of their fingers through a daily email or app.
