Advertising cars, have you ever seen one?

Alyssa Stevens

As my friends and I were leaving for spring break we drove through Atlanta. Of course the traffic was heavy, but we drove up on a car that had a sign on the top similar to that of dominos or other delivery food restaurants. However, it wasn't a delivery car, it was only advertising for a particular business. I thought of how I had probably seen something similar before, but never thought about how great of an idea it was. A marketing scheme like this definitely sees the most benefits in larger cities where there is more traffic, and therefore more eyes on their flashy car advertisements. I decided to dig in deeper to find out the success in this relatively new advertising idea.

The method of car advertising varies. I came across a company called Carvertise, who pays people to drive around with one wrapped advertisement on their car for a certain period of time. The farther distances the driver travels, the more they get paid. Their marketing ploy is, "We are an award-winning marketing firm that matches brands with high-mileage car owners who want to drive with an ad decal on their car." Carvertise uses high-mileage drivers and matches them with companies from that certain geographic location to advertise for.

Some of the car advertising companies, such as Carvertise, have been around since 2012. This method of advertising relates closer to our modern generation of media consumers. as stated previously, the car advertising works best in cities and areas with heavy traffic. The driver should aim to be on the roads around busier times like work rush hours and lunch breaks, when people are stuck in their cars. The car advertisements are also flashy and colorful, contrasting with other cars surrounding them that are solid in color. This draws immediate attention.
